What drives you?
My “raison d’etre”… my purpose for living, I think is to use my knowledge, my work, my books, my practice as a holistic psychotherapist, relationship expert and speaker to help stop multi- generational patterns that are not working in couples, families and individuals. We do not have to simply repeat over and over what we were taught. We do not need to just live out our toxic “family-culture” patterns simply because they are familiar. We can redefine our “relationship-culture” with new knowledge and practice. I love blowing people’s minds with techniques and tools to change their thoughts, patterns and habits through the use of neuroscience and brain plasticity as well as mind, body soul exploration and visualization.
What are the 3 words best describe you?
Persistent. Affectionate. Creative.
What are you most passionate about?
Using my gifts to affect change. Using my personality to inspire people to know that they do not have to be victims of their circumstance. It is not where we came from that matters. It is where we are going. Troubled childhoods cannot be a reason to give up. Never give up. My dad used to say.. “If you need a helping hand, look at the end of your own arm”. He had to save himself from the horrors of World War 2. I would add that while emotional self-sufficiency is crucial, it is also very important to be vulnerable enough to ask others for help and support.
What is your definition of success?
That has shifted over the years. Where before, for me success was mainly about outcomes, I now see success as me having the courage to engage in something that is unfamiliar and choosing to not allow the fear that bubbles up to divert me from my path. When I find that I am able to resist the need to stay in my comfort zone, I feel that is a victory for me.
Who or what inspired you to start your business?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs and also I have had some dear women in my life that showed me that women can be in business for themselves. We as women can be masters of our own destiny. We can draw boundaries. We can love and live life on our own terms. We are forces to be reckoned with!
What is your definition of success?
Liking yourself even through the mistakes. Getting up 11 times even if you fail 10 times. Never giving up. Being persistent. Not focusing so much on the outcome but really treasuring and savouring the process.
What has been some of your best lessons learned from taking risks and following your dreams?
I learned that I really do have what it takes to survive and even thrive through adversity. I am not as fragile as I think I am. Also I learned that vulnerability does not equal weakness. And most importantly I learned that I have to enjoy each moment and each success and not just go on to the next accomplishment without celebrating the “wins” in the moment.
When you fall out of balance or feel discouraged – what are some of your tips & strategies to get back on track and reconnect with your fabulous self?
A wonderful Buddhist teacher said, “Your mind is the king and your thoughts and speech are it’s servants, so train your mind.” or as another wise one said, “It’s not what you know, it’s what you practice that matters”. I work a lot with affirmations and mantras to train my mind. Life can just beat you up and the mind is much more attuned to the negative quite naturally. So we need 5 positive thoughts for every negative one to combat the neural pathways of negativity. And I love writing in my journal as well. I find that I need these tools to stay really connected to what my thoughts, feelings and perspectives are at any given moment. The awareness helps me determine what I need to work on. Awareness+courage+repetition and persistence = Change.
What has been your biggest personal/professional accomplishment to date?
Writing my two books! I never thought I would be the one to do this but I did it. I discovered that I love writing. I love that process. I self-published my first book (Find Your “Self-Culture”: Moving From Depression and Anxiety to Monumental Self-Acceptance – Massenergy Press) What a fascinating, satisfying process that is! And then Wow! I got published on my second book! (Connecting: Rewire Your Relationship-Culture- Manor House Publishing) An equally fascinating process that challenged my sense of control but lots of good learning and growing from this.
What are you most excited about right now? I am facilitating a profound live workshop that is very tools and technique rich on Sunday October 16th: Understanding The Narcissistic Relationship and currently I have two online programs on Udemy.com called Relationships and Dating in the Modern World and Boundaries: The Key to Healthy Relationships. You can check my website for details and registration.
I am also prepping for a variety of new online programs for Udemy! The next one will be all about Procrastination: The Source and the Way out! Very excited.
What might others be surprised to learn about you?
Haha! I am a total lover of Bossa Nova! I love Brazilian music and I love dancing to it! I lived there as a kid and cannot get it out of my blood! I also love all things beachy! I adore the sun, the beach and I seek it out as much as possible!
